Hacienda Sac Chich

The Casa des Maquinas of the Hacienda Sac Chich will soon be available on our website for rental. The hacienda formerly belong to Josephina Larrian. She is the Chilean designer and gardener responsible in large part for the look of hacienda Petac's interiors and gardens. She is married to the architect Salvador Reyes Rios. The new owners of the hacienda chose Salvador and Josephina to completely renovate the old machine house that was formerly the sculpture studio of the Florida artist Paul Fullerton who designed a bed that remains in the main wing of the house.

The Main house of the hacienda is a seperate property and owner. The property that we are going to rent is at the edge of the village and was the workshops of the old hennequen hacienda. It has 3 buildings in a U form in the center of 2 acres of beautifully kept gardens and mature trees.

The main house remains much as it did when Josephina lived at the hacienda. It has a beautiful pool overlooking the garden next to the house that has been redesigned. The house has 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. It has a large country kitchen with a harvest table that seats 12. The former studio has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms that have been completely redone by Reyes Rios. It is a hybrid of his colonial renovations like Petac and his lesser know modern houses. He has designed most of the furnishings in this wing which holds the huge and lofty master suite (see link) and two equally comfortable guest suites. Each room has a private garden area.

A colonade links the two houses and has a mezzanine which makes a great outdoor dining area or place to hang out in a hammock if the kids are splashing around in the pool.

It is possible to rent the main house apart from the studio bedrooms building if you do not need 5 bedrooms. But the Studio houses the most luxurious rooms and bathrooms.

If you are a traveller who's ideal vacation is renting a villa and exploring the local countryside and culture(Umbria? Aix en Provence?), you will be thrilled to find such a place in Mexico. If your idea of a Mexican holiday tends more toward all-inclusive beach resorts, then this home is probably not for you.

Hacienda Sac Chich provides a wonderful oasis in the heart of the Mayan countryside where the choice of fascinating exploration or much needed relaxation is the biggest decision you will have to make.

After many family visits to Sac Chich, we've become true devotees to the Yucatan - we can't do enough exploring of the ruins, Mayan villages, old haciendas and out of the way cenotes. It's so nice to have Merida so close, but also be able to enjoy the calm of the countryside.

Beyond luxurious style and comfort, staying at Hacienda Sac Chich offers the incomparable experience of hacienda life as it once was in the Yucatan (mind you, without having to do any of the work!). Our family looks forward to returning for another adventure soon!

I agree with everything that a.lyons said -- Hacienda Sac Chich is an incredible way to experience the real Yucatan!

I'd also like to add that while you are not at a resort, service is not lacking. The staff at Sac Chich, Bartola and Soko, are locals who have been with the owners for a very long time. They quickly make you feel like this is your hacienda and that your comfort is their priority. If only I could always have someone at home prepare freshly squeezed lime juice for my margaritas -- before I even know I want one!

We brought our family of 5 and both teens and adults all had an absolutely wonderful time. I look forward to returning to this special piece of paradise.
